This course introduces students to the foundational structures, processes, and institutions that shape the operation of the legal system. It equips learners with the tools needed to understand how law functions in practice and how legal disputes are resolved.
The programme covers civil procedure and criminal procedure, interpretation of statutes, legal aid, the legal profession and its ethical responsibilities, the nature and functions of law, judicial precedent, and alternative dispute resolution.
Students will develop an understanding of how courts operate, how legal rules are interpreted and applied, and how disputes may be resolved through both litigation and alternative mechanisms. Emphasis is placed on clarity of reasoning, procedural awareness, and practical legal understanding necessary for academic success and professional competence.
