This course provides a comprehensive study of the principles and rules that regulate the exercise of public power and ensure that public institutions and officials act lawfully, fairly, reasonably, and within the limits of their authority. It focuses on mechanisms for controlling administrative action and remedies available where there is abuse of power or maladministration.
The programme introduces students to the scope, foundations, and theoretical underpinnings of administrative law, including its relationship with constitutional law and its development within Ghana’s legal system.
Through case analysis, statutory interpretation, and problem solving exercises, students will develop the ability to evaluate administrative actions, apply control mechanisms, and determine appropriate remedies.
The course is designed to build strong analytical skills, deepen understanding of public administration, and prepare students to address examination questions and real world governance issues with clarity and precision.
